So I was talking to Laura, my friend from Romania today. I was complaining about my lack of free time, and about the fact that I will not get much rest for the next 5 weeks.
Well...Laura told me she is going to have a lot of days off in the next two months. First, everyone in Romania gets off work on Easter. This year, Greek Orthodox Easter is on April 27 or so. Usually, people get at least 2 days off for this. Then, everyone is free on May 1st: this is Romanian Labor Day. Since the two holidays are so close to each other, people will have off from April 25 to May 2nd (or at least that's what Laura told me).
As if they were not getting enough days off, authorities have decided to make Men's Day official. Until now, only women had an official day, on March 8th (Women's/Mother's Day). Apparently, the male population in Romania felt discriminated against, so they decided to have their own holiday. Therefore, from now on, May 5th is Men's National Day, and everyone gets off work.
Why did I leave Europe and Romania, again?
